The Court of Owls have come to reclaim Gotham City

The masterminds at WB Games Montréal finally showcased “Gotham Knights” during DC FanDome 2021 on Saturday, Oct 16, 2021.

The exclusive story-driven footage was a highlight to witness since the title was announced to the public one year ago, and the presence of marketing was silent.

To note, the fresh new chapter of Batman mythos on the gaming front was brought to light during the first DC FanDome event last year, however after a series of delays, “Gotham Knights” is now slated for 2022.

This cinematic trailer sees The Penguin explain the presence of the Court of Owls in Gotham City, and it looks a lot like that villainous organization plans to eliminate Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin(Tim Drake), and Red Hood in the wake of both Batman and Commissioner Gordon falling in battle.

On top of the story trailer, we also saw a behind-the-scenes segment with the creators of the game. One highlight was the attention to detail and the balance of staying true to the comic source material which in turn heavily influenced the game’s story. The narrative for this title is loosely based on Scott Snyder’s run on the Batman comic series which transpired during the DC comics New 52 relaunch around 2011.

For those familiar with the Batman Arkham games from Rocksteady who is now making a Suicide Squad game for next-gen consoles, to note also debuted a new trailer at FanDome as well. The combat will not only feel refreshing and quite similar but the main component of this title is centered around the ability to level up your characters and gain new equipment for the heroes, enabling you to face many of the more challenging threats.

It’s fascinating to know this title is set in a universe where Bruce Wayne, better known as the Batman, has died, leaving the mission of protecting Gotham to the rest of the Batfamily. The upcoming third-person action game, developed by Batman Arkham Origins studios creators “WB Montreal,” will let players enjoy the game in a solo or co-op gameplay.

A synopsis for the title was also revealed from WB Games Montréal. The synopsis reads “Batman is dead, It is now up to the Batman Family – Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin – to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos.”

“Gotham Knights” is slated for release in 2022 and will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
