The Bat family continues to evolve! The CW has released images of Camrus Johnson suited up as Batwing.
The Batwing suit was designed by Arroweverse Costume Designer Maya Mani, with help from Diana Patterson and illustrator Andy Poon. The suit was created by Ocean Drive Leather and the helmet was sculpted by James Fairely at Amazing Ape.
“Batwoman” Executive Producer, Caroline Dries spoke on Batwing being brought into the series, where she said she was “looking forward” to introducing the DC Comics superhero.
“I’ve been looking forward to seeing Batwing since we decided to make Luke Fox a fundamental part of our Bat Team way back in the pilot development stages,” Dries said. “I can speak for Cam when I say, So has he! But this character couldn’t come out of nowhere. We built this character from a deeply personal and complicated Luke story that we began setting up in season one, and I look forward to unfolding it over the course of season three.”
Johnson has been playing Luke Fox since the beginning of the CW’s superhero series. Johnson released statement soon after the costume was reveal.
“Honestly, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me to wear the Batwing suit and officially play my first superhero,” Johnson said. “The main reason I wanted to be in Batwoman was for this opportunity — to give kids like me another black hero to look up to and relate to. It’s hard not to smile when I catch myself in the mirror with the bat symbol on my chest, and I’ll keep smiling through every fight scene, every awesome stunt, and every Gotham night where Batwing is finally in the field!”
Batwoman was renewed for Season 3 in February 2021, along with many of its fellow DCTV dramas. The new Bat-crime fighter will be seen in Season 3 of the series, as he will become Batwoman’s crime fighting partner. The Bat duo will find themselves teaming up to clean up the mess that will be made in the upcoming Season 2 finale. Before Luke takes on his variation of the Bat-cowl, he must first overcome his inner demons.
