ST. LOUIS PARK — St. Louis Park police arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday morning in connection with the Sept. 30 shooting along Highway 100 South, executing a search warrant in Blaine, Minnesota, with help from a county SWAT team.

Abdisalan Muhumed Ali, whose date of birth is April 10, 2007, was taken into custody on probable cause second-degree assault, the St. Louis Park Police Department said. The arrest comes less than two weeks after a shooting closed the southbound lanes of Highway 100 between Highway 7 and Excelsior Boulevard.

Officers executed the warrant at approximately 5:40 a.m. Oct. 13 in the 11300 block of Johnson Street NE with assistance from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. The Minnesota State Patrol said at the time of the shooting that the St. Louis Park Police Department was the primary investigating agency.

“Our police officers and investigative teams have worked tirelessly,” St. Louis Park Police Chief Bryan Kruelle said in a statement. “We will continue to work closely with our regional law enforcement partners.”

Kruelle said the department will keep responding to incidents affecting the community “without stigmatizing any group of people.”

The case remains an active and ongoing investigation. The department said it recognizes the public’s interest, but that no additional information will be released at this time to avoid compromising potential evidentiary leads or investigative efforts.

The statement did not describe the circumstances of the Sept. 30 shooting, identify any victims or say what charges Ali could face. The department thanked the public for its understanding and cooperation as investigators continue their work.
