Jeremy Renner sends his love and thanks for all of the kind words he’s received over the week in a post to his Instagram account, days after what authorities are calling a “tragic accident” on New Year’s Day.

Renner, 51, had been clearing snow to free a family member’s car using a Sno-Cat (also called a PistonBully), a machine that weighs over 14,000 pounds, according to Sheriff Darin Balaam of the Washoe County Police. After freeing the car, Renner stepped out of the Sno-Cat to talk to the family member when the plow started to roll forward. In an attempt to gain control of the machine, Renner tried to climb back into the driver’s seat.

“Based on the investigation, it’s at this point that Mr. Renner is run over by the PistonBully,” Balaam stated. “An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner getting into the PistonBully, and not seeing him again until the PistonBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in front of his driveway.”

Police have since taken the Sno-Cat in for investigation, and have ruled out foul-play, as well as Renner being inebriated at the time of operation.

Today, Renner remains in ICU with no public change to his “critical but stable” condition status. Although the extent of his injuries are still unknown, another post to his verified Instagram page showed his mother and sister keeping him company in his room and giving him an “ICU spa day” to lift his spirits.

Friends and fans alike are still flooding his social media pages with support and well wishes for the recovery ahead of the star, something he’s been openly appreciative of.

Jeremy Renner is best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as his roles in The Hurt Locker, and The Town. Currently, Renner stars in Mayor of Kingstown which streams on Paramount+.
