DC Comics is expanding its ongoing “The Wonder War” storyline this September with a new ‘Wonder Woman’ issue and a tie-in annual centered on the arc’s central villain.
In DC’s announcement, “Wonder Woman” no. 37, written by Tom King with art by Daniel Sampere, publishes Sept. 16 and picks up as Steve Trevor and his daughter Trinity arrive in the present after a defeat at the hands of the villain known as the Matriarch 20 years in the future.
The pair must convince Wonder Woman of a threat posed by a seemingly innocent child. The issue carries a main cover price of $4.99 with card stock variants at $5.99, and features additional covers by David Nakayama, Kyuyong Eom and Mahmud A. Asrar.

Two weeks later, on Sept. 30, DC follows with “Wonder Woman Annual: Wonder War, The Matriarch” no. 1, a 48-page special written by Stephanie Williams and Leah Williams with art by Eduardo Pansica and Belén Ortega. The annual follows the Matriarch as she claws her way back from Hell to stop Trevor and Trinity from altering the past. It carries a main cover price of $5.99 with variants at $6.99.

Williams said the annual is designed to mirror the main series thematically. “We’re intentionally paralleling the events of ‘The Wonder War Act 2,'” she said, noting that while King and Sampere handle the external conflict in the main title, the annual follows the Matriarch’s internal struggle after she “chooses fate over freedom.”
Both releases are part of DC’s broader push around Wonder Woman this year, which had also included the character’s tie-in coverage around the “Supergirl” film release.
