DC Studios’ “Supergirl” arrived in theaters and IMAX on June 26, bringing Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El to the big screen for the first time in a solo outing. Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, the film adapted Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” pairing Alcock’s Kara with Jason Momoa’s Lobo for an interstellar, road-trip style story that marked a notable tonal departure from Superman’s arrival in the DCU last year.
The film carried real weight for longtime fans. It was the first time Supergirl headlined a major studio release in more than four decades, and Alcock’s performance faced close scrutiny after her introduction in last year’s “Superman.” Reaction out of early screenings and opening weekend was mixed, with some praising the film’s willingness to lean into a harder-edged, cosmic take on the character, and others wanting more of the earnestness associated with past versions of Kara.
Now that “Supergirl” has had a few weeks in theaters, the Daily Planet wants to revisit a past pol and hear directly from readers. Whether it was a highlight of the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter so far, a solid but unspectacular follow-up to “Superman,” or a miss altogether, we want your honest take.
