Prime Video unveiled the official trailer for “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2 during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, and it turns out the season is coming sooner than we think. The sophomore outing will debut on the streamer next month, on Friday, July 31, the same day “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” swings into theaters, with a full, bingeable 10-episode season.
The trailer offers a closer look at new villain Edward Nygma, also known as The Riddler, and ends with a brief tease of The Joker, who will play a role in the season’s storyline.
The official synopsis for the season reads: “There are new villains on the streets of Gotham City and there’s only one man for the job. This season, it’s not a fight anymore. It’s a WAR…”

The second season features the return of cast members Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzel, Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth, Eric Morgan Stuart as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Michelle C. Bonilla as Renee Montoya and Bumper Robinson as Lucius Fox.
In my review of season one, I wrote that “Batman: Caped Crusader is a noir-mystery thriller, centered around the psychosis of the Dark Knight, as he attempts to make an impact on a city corrupted by the value of regret. The series is another achievement that leads the way in elevating the Saturday morning cartoon formula with a heightened approach to the fabled tales of our childhood, acting in service as a perfect conduit and spiritual successor for respecting the past and embracing the future while reminding us that, as we age, so does the nature and takeaway of our heroes.”

J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm are all executive producers of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” which hails from Amazon MGM Studios, DC Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Other executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich and Sam Register.
“Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2 debuts on Prime Video on July 31. Season 1 is streaming on Prime Video now.
