The MCU Hulk family just got a little bigger

‘Orphan Black’ actress, Tatiana Maslany, has been officially cast to play Attorney ‘Jennifer Walters’, aka ‘She-Hulk’. The character will finally make her long-awaited debut during phase four of ‘Marvel Studios’ when her ‘Disney+’ show drops in 2022.

Phase four will officially kick off with Black Widow and will also include Falcon and the Winter-Soldier, Loki, Wandavision, and other surprises from the studio.

The news came as no surprise after the reports of director Kat Coiro being chosen to helm the pilot, and other episodes of the series, was announced on Sept 15th.

Along with Coiro being called in as director, Rick and Morty scribe, Jessica Gao has also been signed to lead the writer’s room going forward.

For those who don’t know, in the comics Walters is an attorney who has similar powers compared to her cousin, Bruce Banner. She received her abilities through a successful blood transfusion with the Avenger. However, the procedure had side effects altering her DNA to where she takes on the appearance of the Hulk but remains more vocal and coherent with her thoughts. (Think Hulk in Endgame)

Kevin Feige confirmed on the ‘Hollywood Reporter’s podcast’ that when the phase four slate was announced all characters who appear throughout the Disney+ landscape will eventually make their way into the films at a later date.

“Some characters we’ve announced like She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight you will meet for the first time on a Disney+ show and then they’ll go into the movies,” Feige said, “but the MCU will now go back and forth.” Does that mean we’ll have to start calling it the Marvel Extended Universe like its rival DC?

As of now, there is no rumor or evidence pointing to the possibility of Bruce Banner himself, actor Mark Ruffalo, appearing in a cameo of sorts on the She-Hulk property. It could possibly be that Marvel is playing coy about the involvement of Ruffalo or the actor could be in a “passing of the torch” type of situation as we speak.

In addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Hulk family growing in size, Marvel Studios also grew in proportion and scale of talent. Maslany is best known for her Emmy-nominated role in the Orphan Black series.

Of course, the actress is also known for her appearance’s on ‘Diary of the Dead’, ‘Stronger’ and ‘Destroyer’. The future She-Hulk can currently be found on HBO’s Perry Mason.

She-Hulk is slated to begin filming in Atlanta, Georgia in early 2021.
