NikkieTutorials uses makeup to turn 2020 around

Nikkie de Jager, better known on YouTube as NikkieTutorials, announced she will release the NikkieTutorials X Beauty Bay Pressed Pigment Palette, her first eyeshadow palette with Beauty Bay, an online retailer, on Aug. 31.

The 20-shade palette, which Jager created, retails for $30 and will be exclusively available on Beauty Bay’s website. The shades include mattes, shimmers and duo chromes.

“I wanted to create a beautiful mixture of everyday essentials, unique bolds and mysterious darks,” Jager said. “So, in a nutshell the perfect palette for everybody.”

The shades are personal and some symbolize important people in her life, including the shade “Mikai,” named after her brother that passed away from cancer, and “Mr. Tutorials,” which was named after her fiance, Dylan Drossaers.

Nikkie de Jager, who is Dutch, is one of the popular and “most iconic” beauty influencers according to Beauty Bay. On YouTube, she has over 13.5 million subscribers, which is up there with other influencers like Jeffree Star and Jackie Aina.

Despite the excitement from Jager’s fans or “Glow Babies,” the palette is limited edition.

“It has been years since I’ve collaborated on a product with a brand. I’m going to be honest with you, I’m scared,” she said “I don’t know how many people will buy this, how many people will be interested in this. So, when Beauty Bay asked me how many palettes we wanted to make it freaked me out even more”

The palette’s unique and distinctive design includes a pink half and a black half when you open the initial keyhole cover. According to Beauty Bay, the palette was designed to “show the two sides of Nikkie’s personality, the bright and the dark.”

As Jager discusses in her reveal video, the palette is also unique because of its double mirrors.

Specifically, one side has a standard mirror, while the other side has a magnified mirror that zooms in to be ideal for glasses wearers.

Jager made the palette announcement in a YouTube video that she posted on Aug. 27. The video has 1.4 million views and 13 thousand likes.

The palette is an “escape from everyday life” and “a place where you can totally be you,” she said.

The formula of the shadows is cruelty free and vegan too.

Fans that are lucky enough to initially buy the palette will be rewarded for their efforts. For instance, 100 of the palettes will be signed by her, and 50 fans will get a private, virtual masterclass with her. With every palette, fans get a free pop socket as well.

“I will try everything in my power to convince Beauty Bay to make more,” Jager promised in her video.

This palette marks a milestone in Jager’s life considering her history with beauty collabs. Unlike her success with her Ofra Cosmetics highlighters, Jager collaborated with Too Faced on an eyeshadow palette where she was underpaid because she got a $50,000 flat fee, but profit was “over $10 million,” Pop Buzz said.

Nevertheless, Jager is no stranger to controversy. In fact, in January she was forced to come out as transgender after being blackmailed, Forbes said. Just this month, Jager also revealed in a Twitter post that her and her fiance, Dylan, were robbed at gunpoint in their own home earlier in August.

Additionally, Jager is using this palette as a way of making her year positive.

“Life is unfair, but it is up to us to fight for it every single second of the day and this is me fighting to make 2020 better,” Jager said.
