‘The Eye Collector’ no. 1 sells out, rushed back to print

“The Eye Collector,” a new cosmic horror series from writer Jonathan Ball and writer-artist GMB Chomichuk, has sold through its entire distributor inventory following its debut, prompting Image Comics to order a second printing of the first issue.

The series follows an ancient, spectral being whose curiosity toward Earth is reignited after astronauts on the Apollo 10 mission make wishes over the moon. The story narrows in on the creature’s return to Earth, where it tempts the parents of a neglected child with the fulfillment of their own desires in exchange for their son’s eyes.

“The Eye Collector” no. 1, second printing, arrives with new cover art by Chomichuk on July 29, the same day as the series’ second issue. Issue no. 3 follows Aug. 26, and issue no. 4 is scheduled for Sept. 23.

“The response to ‘The Eye Collector’ has been surreal,” Chomichuk said of the sellout.

Ball, whose previous work includes “Last Breeds” and “Clockfire,” said the team was caught off guard by the demand. “We wanted to collect eyes, and Image has blown us away,” he said.

The series has drawn early praise from “Absolute Batman” writer Scott Snyder, who called it daringly original, along with author Silvia Moreno-Garcia. “The Eye Collector” is also being released digitally on Amazon Kindle, Apple Books and Google Play.
