Lake Street Safety Center expands weekday hours to improve community access

1 min read

MINNEAPOLIS — The Lake Street Safety Center has announced a change to its operating hours to ensure consistent access to safety resources and support for residents. Starting August 18, the center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will close at 4 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.

This update marks a shift from the center’s previous schedule, which varied throughout the week. Previously, the center operated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The new hours aim to streamline access, making it easier for community members to plan their visits and receive support.

Located in the heart of the Lake Street corridor, the Safety Center serves as a collaborative hub for government and community-based services. It offers various forms of assistance, including educational support, housing resources, help for crime victims, and substance use recovery. The center also collaborates with local businesses and property owners to address safety concerns such as graffiti, lighting, and camera registration.

In addition to its regular services, the center provides free naloxone and fentanyl test strips with no questions asked, reinforcing its commitment to harm reduction and public health. Staff members are available to help visitors navigate social services, connect with case managers, and resolve safety-related issues.

Community members are encouraged to visit during the new weekday hours to explore available support and learn how the center can assist with their individual needs.
