Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment unveiled the first teaser for “Batman: Knightfall” during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France on Tuesday, marking the start of a three-part animated feature adaptation of the classic DC Comics storyline.
The teaser introduces “Batman: Knightfall Part One: Knightfall,” the first installment in a trilogy that will bring one of Batman’s most iconic comic arcs to the screen across three feature-length films.
The official synopsis reads: “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
The film is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. It adapts the original “Knightfall” storyline, created by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle and Jim Balent. The comic arc, first published in the early 1990s, remains one of the most influential Batman stories, having introduced Bane and chronicled Bruce Wayne’s physical and psychological collapse.
Rick Morales serves as supervising producer, alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are attached as executive producers.
The voice cast includes Anson Mount, known for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Michael Mando, who appears in “Spider-Man: Brave New Day,” voices Bane. Pablo Schreiber, known for “Halo,” voices Jean-Paul Valley, who takes up the mantle of Azrael over the course of the story.
Warner Bros. has not yet announced a specific release date for “Batman: Knightfall Part One: Knightfall” beyond stating the film is expected later this year. Details on the second and third installments of the trilogy have not been released.
This is a developing story and will be updated as additional details, including casting and release information, become available.
