Evening shooting leaves one dead on Saint Paul’s west side

Saint Paul police are investigating a homicide after a male was shot on Raspberry Island on Monday, August 14.

SAINT PAUL— Just after 9 p.m., officers were called to the island located at 2 South Wabasha Street on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. Officers provided first aid until Saint Paul medics arrived and transported the male victim to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

Officers secured the scene and located possible witnesses. Preliminary information indicates that a large group of people had gathered on Raspberry Island. It’s reported that an altercation occurred, and shots were fired. Homicide investigators will be working to determine what led to this incident and who is responsible. The Forensic Services Unit will be processing the scene for evidence and the video management unit will be canvassing the areas for cameras that may have captured what occurred.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call investigators at 651-266-5650.  

The Ramsey County medical examiner will positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn. 

This is the 23rd homicide of 2023 in Saint Paul.
