All ‘Avatar’ sequels experience delays, unveiling exciting plot details

2 mins read

The highly anticipated sequels to James Cameron’s blockbuster hit ‘Avatar’ have faced delays, pushing back their release dates. The new schedule reveals that “Avatar 3” will hit theaters on Dec. 19, 2025, followed by ‘Avatar 4’ on Dec.21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” on December 19, 2031.

While fans eagerly await the continuation of the ‘Avatar’ saga, rumors have started circulating about the title of ‘Avatar 3,’ which is rumored to be ‘The Seed Bearer.’ Director James Cameron has hinted at the film’s focus on the Sully family, particularly their children. Speculations suggest that the movie will showcase Jake’s ongoing battle against Quartich and the Skypeople, with a closer exploration of Kiri’s journey after her remarkable display of power in ‘The Way of Water.’

Exciting revelations about the plot have surfaced, albeit with some confusion. Cameron, in an interview with French publication 20 Minutes, disclosed that ‘Avatar 3’ will introduce evil fire Na’vi characters, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the Na’vi race. Producer Jon Landau has also confirmed that Oona Chaplin, known for her role in “Game of Thrones,” has been cast as Varang, the leader of these fiery Na’vi, who will be referred to as the Ash People.

Regarding the progress of “Avatar 3,” both Cameron and the film’s producer, Jon Landau, have stated that the filming for this installment is complete. It was shot back-to-back with the second film, ensuring a seamless continuation of the narrative.

As for “Avatar 4,” it is rumored to be titled “Avatar: The Tulkun Rider,” although this has not been officially confirmed. The meaning behind the title remains somewhat enigmatic, but speculation suggests it could explore the concept of riding Tulkuns in the Avatar universe (as they did in “Avatar: The Way of Water”), evoking visions of a Dune-like experience. While details regarding the progress of “Avatar 4” are not as clear as with its predecessor, Cameron has mentioned that the script is complete, and part of the movie has been filmed. The decision to shoot only a portion of the film may be attributed to logistical reasons, potentially to accommodate the growth of the young actors involved in “The Way of Water.”

Intriguingly, Cameron has shared that the script for “Avatar 4” elicited an enthusiastic response from the studio executive, describing it as “going nuts in a good way.” This indicates that the storyline pushes boundaries and promises an exhilarating cinematic experience.

Although “Avatar 5” does not yet have an official title, rumors suggest it may be called “Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.” Cameron has hinted that this installment will bring the action to Earth, presenting a complex narrative where Neytiri discovers that not all humans are malevolent, while the audience learns that not all Na’vi are benevolent. The concept lightly implies an Avatar alien-invasion scenario, delivering a thrilling storyline that fans can anticipate.

Producer Jon Landau, in an interview with Variety, added further insight by revealing that ‘Avatar 5’ would take place in a future Earth grappling with overpopulation and the depletion of natural resources. The film promises to explore thought-provoking themes against the backdrop of an Earth on the brink of environmental catastrophe.

Although the delays may test the patience of fans, the revealed plot details for the “Avatar” sequels promise an immersive and unforgettable cinematic journey. As we wait for the release of each installment, anticipation continues to grow, fueling the excitement surrounding James Cameron’s visionary franchise.
