Santa Cop program spreads holiday cheer

1 min read

BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Police Department (BPD) made the holidays a bit merrier for more than 100 children in the community last month. Officers delivered toys and gifts—not in a sleigh, but in a squad car—for BPD’s third annual Santa Cop event.

This event was made possible due to generous donations from the community. The BPD received gifts, toys and tech accessories from community members and businesses. Children were nominated by BPD staff, social workers, schools and organizations in Bloomington.

Recipients included children who may have lost a parent, children under the guardianship of someone other than their parent and families experiencing financial hardship. The gifts for each child or youth were hand-selected and wrapped before being delivered.

“To see the excitement and joy on a child’s face and to bring some love to the community—this is what the holiday season is all about,” said Crime Prevention Specialist Katie Zerull.  “The department is thankful for all who donate to make this program possible each year.”
