Cubans approved a sweeping family law code that would allow same-sex couples to marry and adopt and promote equal sharing of domestic rights and responsibilities between men and women.
The family law of more than 400 articles was approved by 66.9% to 33.1%, the National Electoral Council said.
The reforms, which also allow surrogate pregnancies and punish gender violence, had met unusually strong open resistance from groups including the growing evangelical movement in Cuba despite an extensive government campaign in favor of the measure.
