EDEN PRAIRIE, MN — The Eden Prairie Police Department has moved into its new home on the west side of City Center, with the facility’s public lobby and reception area now open for residents seeking in-person services.
The department began moving into the remodeled space in July following a June 16 dedication ceremony attended by city and police officials. The move relocates the department from the lower level of City Center, where it had operated for more than three decades.
The department’s address remains 8080 Mitchell Road, and its non-emergency phone number remains 952-949-6200. The new public entrance can be reached from the City Center parking lot off Mitchell Road or from Scenic Heights Road near Fire Station 1. The department’s regular hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The relocation is part of a larger City Center remodeling project that began in spring 2025. The approximately 112,000-square-foot project spans two levels and includes roughly 27,000 square feet for a new Police Department garage. The city lists the project cost at approximately $26.5 million, financed through general obligation bonds.
The new police facility expands office and training space and includes updated detention and evidence-processing areas, indoor vehicle storage and updated technology. The project also provides a dedicated public entrance intended to make the department more accessible to residents.
The need for additional space grew as the department and its vehicle fleet nearly doubled since the Police Department first moved into the lower level of City Center more than 30 years ago, according to the city. Local reporting on the project also noted that the department had grown from 47 officers when it occupied its former space in the 1990s to an authorized force of 75 officers.
Police Chief Matt Sackett described the move as a new chapter for the department during the June dedication.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Eden Prairie Police Department,” Sackett said. “After more than 30 years in our current location, this new facility provides the space and resources needed to support our employees and continue delivering the exceptional public safety service our community deserves.”
The city’s broader remodeling project also moves city offices and public meeting spaces from the lower level of City Center to the main level. The project was approved after years of planning, with the City Council approving construction contracts in January 2025.
Residents will have an opportunity to see portions of the new Police Department facility during the citywide open house on Saturday, Oct. 3. The tour is expected to include the detention area and evidence garage.
