September movie magic returns to The Commons in Minneapolis

Minneapolis is set to host two iconic outdoor movie nights this September, bringing back the magic of “Wicked” and “Barbie” under the stars at The Commons.

Originally postponed due to weather, both events promise unforgettable evenings filled with music, dance, and community celebration.

‘Wicked’ sing-along rescheduled for September 4

Due to the threat of thunderstorms, the “Wicked” sing-along at The Commons was postponed—but not canceled. The event will now take place on Thursday, September 4, at The Commons, located at 425 Portland Ave S, Minneapolis. Thanks to the support of  Stonewall Sports – Twin Cities, the full spellbinding experience returns just a few days later.

Updated Schedule:

  • 5:30 p.m. – Food trucks and bar open
  • 6:15 p.m. – “Defying Gravity” performance by the Spellbinding Sky Dancers
  • 7:45 p.m. – Special screening of Mikah Meyer’s “Canyon Chorus
  • 8:00 p.m. – “Wicked: The Sing-Along” under the stars

Whether you’re team Glinda or team Elphaba, this is your chance to celebrate the magic of friendship, flying monkeys, and finding your voice. Bring your blanket, your chosen family, and your best vocals for a night in the Emerald City.

‘Barbie’ returns September 12

She’s everything—he’s just Ken—and “Barbie” at The Commons is making a fabulous return. Originally scheduled for June 25, this glittering night with the Dreamhouse crew will now take place on Friday, September 12, at The Commons.

Event Schedule:

  • 6:00 p.m. – Food trucks and bar open
  • 6:30–7:30 p.m. – Dance party with Billie, featuring the “Dance the Night” routine and “I’m Just Ken” moves
  • 7:45 p.m. – Movie screening: “Barbie” (PG-13)

Whether you’re channeling full Barbiecore glam or Mojo Dojo Casa House energy, this dance party is for you. Grab your glitter, call your crew, and get ready for back-to-back iconic movie nights in downtown Minneapolis.
