DC unveils a bold timeline in ‘New History of the DC Universe’ limited series

DC Comics is set to release a limited series titled "New History of the DC Universe" on June 25. Authored by Mark Waid and illustrated by Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck, the series will explore DC's history from Barry Allen’s perspective. It promises to offer new insights and Easter eggs for fans, featuring prominent artists and variant covers.

DC Comics has announced the upcoming release of a new limited series titled “New History of the DC Universe.” The series will debut on Wednesday, June 25, at participating comic book shops and digital retailers.

The series, penned by renowned writer Mark Waid—known for his work on “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest,” “Justice League Unlimited,” and “Batman & Robin: Year One”—will provide a fresh perspective on the history of the DC Universe through the lens of Barry Allen, also known as the Flash.

“This is my dream project,” Mark Waid said, expressing his enthusiasm for the project. “It’s a chance to realign all of DC’s sprawling continuity into one master timeline and to be joined by some of comics’ greatest artists to make it shine. With new information for even longtime fans, plus Easter eggs galore, this series will be an essential read for DC fans.”

The debut issue showcases artwork by Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck, who collaborate with Waid to chronicle Barry Allen’s journey, starting from the inception of the DC Universe through the establishment of the Justice Society and into the Golden Age of Heroes.

“I’m having an absolute blast with this project,” Nauck remarked. “Mark has come up with something cool for me to draw on every page, and it’s been an honor to share art chores with a comics legend like Jerry Ordway.”

Nauck emphasized the depth of DC history being explored, noting that even as a longtime reader, he is discovering new aspects through the project.

Jerry Ordway, a veteran artist involved in the pivotal “Crisis on Infinite Earths” series in the 1980s, also expressed his excitement about collaborating on this new chapter in DC’s storytelling.

In addition to the interior artwork, the series will feature an impressive lineup of cover artists. Chris Samnee, known for Batman & Robin: Year One, will craft the main cover of the debut issue. Artists, including Dan Mora (“Justice League Unlimited,” “Superman”), Ryan Sook (“Black Canary: Best of the Best”), and Mike Cho, will provide variants.

Sook will also offer a stunning variant that showcases a collection of iconic Super Heroes from DC’s long history, complemented by a foil variant from renowned cover artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau. Additionally, Scott Koblish will contribute a series of connecting wraparound variant covers, illustrating DC’s iconic characters in chronological order throughout the series.

Participating comic book shops will begin taking preorders for this anticipated series starting Friday, March 21.
