David Corenswet, the actor taking on the iconic role of Superman in the upcoming DC Universe film, has been garnering attention with his unique approach to the challenges of portraying such a legendary character.
In a recent interview with Esquire España (translated by CBR), Corenswet discussed the inevitable scrutiny and criticism of portraying the Man of Steel, providing a perspective that resonates with both fans and critics.
“I like to grow and improve myself with criticism,” Corenswet shared when asked about handling feedback. “I don’t take it personally. Quite the opposite, it’s a learning experience,”

Corenswet emphasized the strength represented by Superman, a character recognized as a symbol of hope and personal growth by millions.
When asked about his future in the DC Universe, Corenswet mostly shrugged off the question.
“I don’t think it’s up to me to answer that,” Corenswet said. “It’s up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination, and he is just there where they need [him] to be to say what was written, although that doesn’t always happen.”
According to Corenswet, preparing for his role was a transformative experience. Standing at an impressive 6’4″, the actor has made significant physical changes and even outgrown some of his wardrobe after bulking up.

Brosnahan, his co-star who plays Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, shared a special moment when she first saw Corenswet in the Superman suit. She said that just as she was leaving, she knocked on the door and found him in the suit.
“It sort of happened twice,” Brosnahan said of seeing Corenswet dressed as Superman. “When we tested for the parts together, I was doing a play, so I had to get out quickly. I was leaving and I knocked on the door, and he was standing there in a Superman suit, testing. I was just like, ‘Superman is in the building.’ It was wild. It was one of those electric moments that feel really rare. In that moment, I knew it would be David.”
Corenswet said he had a clear understanding of what Superman symbolizes and knows that the character is more than just a superhero; he’s a mythological figure whose essence should connect with people both on and off the screen.
“James Gunn has a tremendous imagination,” Corenswet said. “I’m only here to deliver the lines he’s written. It’s a very particular vision, spiced up with some wonderful elements and performances.”
