Today, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that actor Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”) traded tridents for leather.
The longtime DC comics actor has officially joined the ever-growing ranks of James Gunn’s DCU as the bounty hunter Lobo; reports indicate Momoa is slated to debut as the leading man himself in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film, along with confirmation that filming will begin on Jan 13th, 2025.
In addition, Deadline reiterated that Gunn has confirmed no details about the movie’s plot, nor has the movie’s director, Craig Gillespie, and the scriptwriter, Ana Nogueira, or Supergirl herself, Milly Alcock, shed any details regarding the story or timeline placement in the latest shared continuity sandbox.
Note that the official cast is Matthias Schoenaerts, who boards as the villain Krem of Yellow Hill, and most recently, Eve Ridley came on to play the part of Ruthye Mary Knolle. With cameras set to roll soon, the ensemble should be rounded out or continue to be.
Riding the newly found confidence of the DC brand, Momoa and Gunn took to social media to confirm and comment on the news:
“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but it was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be “a f*ck yeah.” Alongside the social media post Momoa posted a caption this morning that reads, “They called.”
Hours later, Gunn commented and reshared the post with the caption, “Welcome to the DCU.”
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will be released theatrically on June 26, 2026.
