1 min read

Open Streets East Lake is set for Saturday, Aug. 13, spanning from Second Avenue South to 22nd Avenue South on East Lake Street.

The street will be closed to vehicle traffic from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., giving people the chance to enjoy East Lake in a car-free environment. You can play, eat, bike, walk, dance, sing and much more at this family friendly event.

“More than a street festival, Open Streets East Lake allows neighbors to experience city streets as public spaces where communities thrive,” said the City.

Event highlights include the Midtown Phillips Festival hosted by the Midtown Phillips Neighborhood Association and a block party hosted by Modus Locus with free roller skating and a performance stage. Metro Transit is also offering free rides to the event.

Future events for the 2022 season include Open Streets West Broadway on Saturday, Sept. 10 and Open Streets Minnehaha on Saturday, Oct. 1.

According to a joint statement, “Opens Streets Minneapolis is a City of Minneapolis initiative organized by Our Streets Minneapolis that gives local businesses, artists and community groups a chance to transform the streets into a place where people can gather and celebrate the diversity and creativity of the city while walking, biking and rolling.”
