Saint Paul police are investigating after a shooting in the city’s Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood left a man dead early Tuesday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Bates Avenue just after midnight on a report of a person lying in the street. That’s where they found a man believed to be in his 30s suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers attempted to render aid and called for Saint Paul Fire medics, who responded and pronounced the man dead without transporting him to a hospital.

Investigators with the police department’s homicide and forensic services units are currently looking for possible witnesses and processing the scene for evidence. No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is asked to call 651-266-5650.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department Twitter account, @sppdmn.

This is the 14th homicide of 2022 in Saint Paul.
