Federal trial begins for ex-officers charged in George Floyd’s death

Opening statements began Monday in Minnesota for the trial of three former Minneapolis police officers — Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane — all of whom are charged with federal civil rights violations in relation to George Floyd’s death.

Last April, ex-cop Derek Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for Floyd’s death during an arrest in May 2020.
