When video games are made into a movie it incites two questions? Many are left to wonder if it will flop like the 1993 Super Mario Bro’s movie or will it rekindle the nostalgia of our gaming childhood just like Sonic did this past year?
Of course, though it always comes down to the casting of such iconic characters, and it seems like the days of the troubled past are officially behind us.

Deadline just confirmed that the Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ (Kong: Skull Island) Metal Gear Solid movie is finally gaining some momentum with the casting of Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as the legendary Solid Snake.
The film will be based on the hit video game series created by Hideo Kojima, Roberts will be working off a screenplay by Skull Island scribe Derek Connolly (Jurassic World: Dominion).
For those who don’t know the Metal Gear franchise was first introduced in 1987 for the MSX home computers. Of course, though the series found its stride later on Playstation. The franchise was so well received that the character of Solid Snake was propelled to being a poster child of the Sony brand.
Many fans remember the iconic series was known for its cinematic qualities; intense boss fights, and overall fantastic storytelling. However, one thing that has always left fans confused was when would the game transcend to the silver screen.

Of course many know the series due to the first Metal Gear Solid which was released on the PlayStation 1 in 1998. MGS or Metal Gear Solid revolved around Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit.
During the course of the title, Snake must liberate hostages and stop the terrorists from launching a nuclear strike. What fans didn’t realize at the time was that MGS would go on to usher a change in gaming that can still be felt today. One thing I’m interested in though is how much of the games will make it into this new original film adaption.

I do wonder when Isaac will officially begin work as Solid Snake. Due to the fact he has lined up a lot of big projects since finishing up his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequels. Isaac is confirmed to appear in the upcoming film Dune.
To note he has also been rumoured to star in Moon Knight for Marvel Studios. If confirmed the actor will be taking on the title role of a mentally ill mercenary, Marc Spector.
So, given the actor’s busy schedule, it’s unclear when shooting will begin, but Metal Gear Solid is thought to be a priority for Sony Pictures. That’s not overly surprising, as the franchise potential is huge, to say the least.
