HBO Max released the official trailer for its DC Studios drama series “Lanterns” during a San Diego Comic-Con panel Friday, confirming the eight-episode first season will debut Sunday, Aug. 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
The panel featured stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan alongside co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
“Lanterns” follows new recruit John Stewart, played by Pierre, and Green Lantern veteran Hal Jordan, played by Chandler, two intergalactic cops pulled into an earth-based murder investigation with cosmic ties in the American heartland, according to the show’s logline.
The series is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy, Lindelof and King co-wrote the pilot and serve as co-creators, with Mundy also acting as showrunner. James Hawes directed the first two episodes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also directing installments this season. Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and Hawes are credited as executive producers. The show is based on the DC comic “Green Lantern.”
The full cast includes Chandler, Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Dillahunt, Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
“Lanterns” is the latest DC Studios television project to reach the screen under the Gunn and Safran-led banner, following a slate that has included “Superman” and “Peacemaker” as the studio builds out its shared universe across film and TV.
