South Minneapolis man dies in overnight shooting on Columbus Ave S

A man died after being shot near the 4100 block of Columbus Avenue South in south Minneapolis early Sunday morning, and homicide investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man died after being shot near the 4100 block of Columbus Avenue South in south Minneapolis early Sunday morning, police announced.

Third Precinct officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired at approximately 12:18 a.m. and arrived to find a man in the street with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers moved the injured man to the intersection of 42nd Street East and Columbus Avenue South to provide medical aid. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the scene.

Officers secured the scene and canvassed the surrounding area. Evidence of gunfire was recovered along the 4100 block of Columbus Avenue South. MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected additional evidence.

“MPD homicide investigators are working to determine the full sequence of events that led to the shooting,” Chief O’Hara said in a statement. No arrests have been made. The incident is assigned MPD case number 26-138854.
