Byrne’s Man of Steel in ‘Superman,’ ‘Action,’ & ‘Adventures’

1 min read

Host Anthony Desiato and guest Michael Bailey (Fortress of Baileytude) dig into the first half of John Byrne’s 2-year run on the Super-titles, including:

  • The flagship “Superman” series, written & drawn by Byrne, which saw the rebooted Man of Steel face off against Metallo, Bloodsport, Rampage, Joker, and Mister Mxyzptlk
  • “Action Comics,” also by Byrne, which depicted Superman’s Post-Crisis DCU team-ups with Teen Titans, Phantom Stranger, Etrigan, the Green Lantern Corps, and Big Barda (in one of this era’s most notorious outings)
  • “Adventures of Superman” by Marv Wolfman & Jerry Ordway, which took a more character-focused approach and introduced the likes of Cat Grant, Gangbuster, and Emil Hamilton

Anthony and Michael also compare notes on “The Greatest Hero of Them All,” a crossover with Paul Levitz’s Legion of Super-Heroes title that attempted to reconcile that team’s connection to Superboy with the Post-Crisis continuity.

This episode covers: “Superman” no.1-11, “Adventures of Superman” no. 424-435, and “Action Comics” No. 584-593.
