PLYMOUTH— After nearly two decades of planning and phased construction, the northwest greenway in Plymouth has officially reached completion. The city held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday evening at a newly constructed boardwalk over the wetlands near Juneau Lane and 57th Avenue N.
The final phase of the greenway includes two boardwalks, a rest stop with a bench, and a bike rack, connecting the trail west of Juneau Lane to 57th Avenue. The greenway spans roughly 315 acres, with 7.7 miles of paved trails for walking and biking, scenic overlooks, an open-air pavilion, and a challenge course.
The trail also links to neighborhood parks, the Plymouth Dog Park, and the Medicine Lake Regional Trail, enhancing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
City officials noted that the greenway was initiated following a 2006 voter-approved $9 million referendum to acquire and preserve open space. Construction rolled out in phases from 2015 to 2025, emphasizing both the preservation of natural resources and expanded recreational access.
“The northwest greenway is a significant addition to our community, offering space for wildlife while encouraging outdoor activity,” a city spokesperson said.
