Today, the Pohlad family announced their intent to explore a sale of the Minnesota Twins, following 40 years of ownership that began in 1984.
“For the past 40 seasons, the Minnesota Twins have been part of our family’s heart and soul. This team is woven into the fabric of our lives, and the Twins community has become an extension of our family,” Twins Executive Chair Joe Pohlad said in a statement on behalf of the Pohlad family. “The staff, the players, and most importantly, you, the fans – everyone who makes up this unbelievable organization – is part of that. We’ve never taken lightly the privilege of being stewards of this franchise.”
The family said they decided to publicly explore selling the Twins after months of consideration.
“We truly respect and cherish what the Twins mean to Minneapolis, St. Paul, the great state of Minnesota, and this entire region,” said Pohland. “Our goal is to be as informative as possible with the team, staff, and you, the fans.”
Pohland said that fans “deserve this” sale because, in many ways, this team belongs to everyone, not just one family. According to Pohland, the goal is to find an ownership group that the family can all be proud of, and that will care for the Minnesota Twins.
After four decades, the Pohlad family stated, “We are focused on the future for our family, the Twins organization, and our community.”
