Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Tom Welling (Clark Kent) are joined by “Smallville” show creators Alfred (Al) Gough and Miles Millar to discuss the eight season one episode “Jitters.”
They discuss landing Tony Todd, how many directors the episode had to go through before finalization and how the episode was shot out of order.
Further frustrations were also discussed, including Warner Bros. trying to push Tom’s Clark Kent into teenage tropes, a now staple for The CW, formerly the WB, which is the channel “Smallville” aired on.
Some people also nearly lost their jobs due to this episode going over budget, according to their discussion.
Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar join Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum as they revisit Jitters, one of the most epic episodes from Season 1 (featuring Candymam himself Tony Todd) sharing the absolute chaos that went on behind the scenes to put this episode together. Al and Miles talk about landing Tony Todd, why going over budget almost cost them their jobs, and the crazy reasons that more than four different directors were involved in its making. We also talk about the wire work in the final collapsing bridge scene, John Glover transitioning from a guest star, and a defense for the Freak of the Week template.
Talk Ville: Episode 08 — Jitters description
In “Jitters,” Earl Jenkins (Tony Todd) claims that his violent shaking disease was a result of illicit experiments on Level 3 of Luthorcorp. Lionel (John Glover) denies that it exists, so Earl takes a plant tour group hostage. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) offers himself in exchange for the hostages.
