Governor Walz highlights safety preparation for the Minnesota State Fair

Yesterday, Governor Tim Walz highlighted the safety preparation for the Minnesota State Fair. Governor Walz was joined by Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington, Minnesota State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer, Minnesota State Fair Police Chief Ron Knafla, and the Minnesota State Patrol. Governor Walz discussed the collaboration that has gone into ensuring the fair will be safe for all attendees.

Minnesota Board of Animal Health appoints new executive director

The six-member Minnesota Board of Animal Health has named Dr. Marion Garcia as its new executive director and state veterinarian. The Board selected Dr. Garcia to succeed Dr. Beth Thompson, who left the agency in May of this year and served the agency since 2016. Dr. Linda Glaser served in the interim while the Board went through the hiring process. Dr. Garcia will officially start at the end of September.

Canisteo Pit in northeastern Minnesota receives $710,000 in funding

Today, $710,000 for contingency pumping at the Canisteo Pit in Itasca County was approved at the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board meeting. The pumping will begin on or before Oct. 1 to prevent water from overtopping the pit until a permanent outlet solution is in place. A permanent solution will require legislative funding.

MDA partnerships assist transitioning farmers

Farmers in Minnesota looking to enter or exit farming have two new resources available, through a partnership between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) and Minnesota Dairy Initiative (MDI).
