MINNEAPOLIS — Since 1974, “A Christmas Carol” has been a cornerstone of the Guthrie Theater’s holiday season, drawing audiences from across Minnesota and beyond. The 2025 production, led by director Addie Gorlin-Han and featuring David Beach as Ebenezer Scrooge, promises to carry on that legacy with a renewed sense of community and celebration.
“’A Christmas Carol’ remains one of the most anticipated productions of every Guthrie season, making it a holiday tradition held dear by many communities,” said Artistic Director Joseph Haj. “It reminds us that we all have the ability to become better versions of ourselves when we let love, kindness, and compassion in.”
Adapted by Lavina Jadhwani, who passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle with cancer, the play honors her legacy of inclusivity and storytelling. Jadhwani’s adaptation continues to explore the universal themes of transformation, empathy, and renewal that define Dickens’ classic tale.
The cast includes Guthrie veterans and local favorites such as Stephanie Anne Bertumen, China Brickey, Aimee K. Bryant, John Catron, Charity Jones, Tyler Michaels King, and Regina Marie Williams. Young Twin Cities performers will also rotate in various roles throughout the run.
In addition to the performances, the Guthrie will host “Spirit Week” from Nov. 11–15, offering themed activities, giveaways, and family-friendly events to kick off the holiday season. Theatergoers can also enjoy Fezziwig’s Holiday Party — a festive pop-up bar in the Target Lounge sponsored by Suntory Global Spirits and Maverick Beverage Company.
Accessible performances will include ASL-interpreted, audio-described, open-captioned, and relaxed showings, ensuring the story remains available to all audiences.
Tickets range from $35 to $148 and can be purchased through the Guthrie Box Office or guthrietheater.org.
