Speaking in Jakarta, Indonesia, Wadephul emphasized that Chinese military assertiveness in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait challenges the global rules-based order.

Germany and other European nations depend on secure trade routes through these waters, making regional instability a European concern.

The minister warned that increased military activity and land claims could hurt international trade and European businesses. He urged nearby countries to follow international laws and asked for joint diplomatic actions to reduce tensions.

Germany’s warning comes amid growing NATO discussions about the global implications of Indo-Pacific security, particularly as European countries seek to balance trade interests with strategic alliances in Asia.
