Superman-themed watch is a collector’s dream

I have been obsessed with watches for as long as I can remember. My father figure, my grandfather Gerald Benz, always wore one. After his passing, the watch was one of the few things I inherited.

So, when Superman was trending in July, I was ecstatic when Filippo Loreti, a watch brand, contacted the Daily Planet to review their latest nerdy addition.

I published their initial launch and partnership with DC Comics announcement in July, and they soon sent me one of their watches to review. I had never done a product review publicly before, so I jumped at the opportunity and prepared for this new endeavor.

I was thrilled when I received the box in the mail. I carefully opened it and photographed every step of the unboxing process. I had seen unboxing videos before, but I had never participated in one myself.

A timely and impressive presentation

However, the Daily Planet’s focus is on writing, so I opted to capture the moment with step-by-step images instead.

The packaging was masterfully crafted and thoughtfully prepared. I appreciated the artwork that led to the grand reveal of the watch I chose: the Fortress of Solitude – Ice Blue Diver.

It was an impressive sight—one of the nicest watches I had ever seen. The black wristband is light and breathable, providing a wonderful contrast to the beautiful watch face featuring the Superman symbol.

However, a watch is not evaluated solely by its packaging; it’s measured by its functionality and comfort. To ensure I prepared a proper review, I did what any watch lover would do: I wore it. It weighs similarly to my Apple Watch but surpasses that product in one significant way: it is water-resistant.

At first, I found it difficult to manage the watch’s dial to recharge it and adjust the time. As an impatient person, this challenge frustrated me while I was juggling multiple tasks at work. However, once I finally figured out how to use its functions, I was ecstatic and have loved the watch ever since.

A design that would put Jimmy’s signal watch to shame

The overall design of this piece is stunning. I really appreciate a soft blue aesthetic, so the Fortress of Solitude design is perfect for me. The silver finish and gray tones are also fantastic features. I love the minimalist look on the front of the watch, which is especially appealing to me as someone who experiences occasional ADD spurts.

I made a fun discovery while using the watch: it glows in the dark! Like the character who inspired this timepiece, the watch derives its power from sunlight, and the effect is magnificent. It’s bright enough to tell the time but dim enough to glance at it in a theater. I experienced this during my fourth visit to see “Superman” at AMC.

The best-kept secret is the engraving on the back of the watch. In authentic, comic-accurate Kryptonian (translated for accuracy), it reads “The Last Son of Krypton,” arching around another beautifully etched Superman symbol.

A super-watch

Overall, I consider this timepiece to be a beautiful collector’s item, one that Superman fans will definitely enjoy. I imagine mine as a signal watch of sorts, ready to call Superman to my aid when needed.

In reality, I have received many compliments on the craftsmanship and how it reflects my passions and fandoms. It’s the nicest piece of jewelry I own, and I proudly display it next to my grandfather’s own timepiece on my dresser.
