SAINT PAUL, MN— Hundreds of participants braved the arctic air and marched to the Minnesota State Capitol building in Saint Paul on the morning of Jan. 18, 2025, to advocate for women’s rights.
The walk was organized to protest Donald Trump’s impending presidency, given his history of demeaning women and his liability in a sexual abuse case. The event also aimed to emphasize the ongoing lack of equal rights for women compared to their male counterparts in the United States.
“Eight years ago, 100,000+ Minnesotans marched to the Minnesota Capitol to defend and protect women’s, immigrants’, LGBTQ+ rights, and justice for all,” the official website for the organized protest read. “On the eve of a presidency built on repression and divisiveness, we ask you to join the People’s March, January 18, 2025 in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the State Capitol.”
Members of the Daily Planet team participated in the march today, capturing images (shown above) of freedom of speech and the right to assembly in one of its purest forms.
“The world is a scary place to be a human right now, especially with Trump coming into office this upcoming week,” Brianna Taggart, a regular columnist and member of the Daily Planet Board of Creators, stated. “I’m so thankful and fortunate to live in Minnesota and trust that my local electives will do what they can to take care of us. However, the rest of the country isn’t as lucky. I owe it to everyone to help take a stand and show up, boots on the ground and signs in the air. I march because people long ago marched for me. I march because I’m not free if every girl and woman aren’t free.”
Participants carried carefully crafted signs as they marched toward the legislative hill in Minnesota. Most of them were there in solidarity with their American neighbors in other states who have fewer rights. They also walked to make a statement: Minnesota will never go back; we are only moving forward.

Thanks for the compliment. So what you’re saying is I’m really strong and can literally birth new life into the world? All that being said, I was reporting on a moment that was taking place.
