Pentagon’s $320 million aid pier in Gaza breaks apart due to rough seas and storms

A U.S.-built temporary pier in Gaza, used to deliver humanitarian aid, suffered damage due to rough seas.

The Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) pier, which began operations only in the past two weeks, provided an additional way to get critically needed food to Gaza.

Unfortunately, it has faced setbacks, including three U.S. service member injuries and four vessels being beached due to heavy seas. Deliveries were also halted briefly last week after crowds rushed aid trucks coming from the pier, resulting in the death of a Palestinian man.

The U.S. military said that it is working with the U.N. and Israeli officials to find safer alternate routes for aid delivery

The pier was fully functional until recently when heavy seas unmoored four Army boats being used to ferry pallets of aid from commercial vessels to the pier.

Despite these challenges, efforts are underway to repair and restore the pier’s functionality. It remains a critical lifeline for delivering essential supplies to the people of Gaza during challenging times of war.

Israel continues bombing Gaza as famine encroaches on the population, many of whom are unarmed and without protection and shelter and have been living as refugees in their own country.
