Eden Prairie plans subscribed burns for May

City parks and natural resources staff, with assistance from the Eden Prairie Fire Department, are conducting prescribed prairie burns through May.

EDEN PRAIRIE — Each prescribed burn is expected to last one to three hours, dependent upon weather conditions. City staff state that they monitor weather conditions closely and coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources’ Wildfire program to determine ideal conditions.

According to city officials, prescribed burns help “rejuvenate growth and ensure long-term survival of the native prairie by controlling invasive plants.” After burning, the ground will appear charred, but plant regrowth will still occur in the spring and produce a variety of new species.

Prescribed burn locations

  • Community Center
  • Creekwood park
  • Hidden Ponds Park
  • Homeward Hills Park
  • Maintenance Facility, 15150 Technology Drive
  • Prairie East Park
  • Round Lake Park
  • Top View Park
  • Water Storage Facility, 8251 Eden Prairie Road
