Minnesota Vikings finalize 2023 coaching staff

The Vikings on Tuesday announced the 2023 coaching staff has been finalized with the addition of the following five coaches: Imarjaye Albury as Defensive Assistant, Thad Bogardus as Assistant Inside Linebackers, Dalmin Gibson as Assistant Special Teams, Pat Hill as Assistant Defensive Line and Michael Hutchings as Assistant Defensive Backs.

Albury is returning to the coaching staff after spending 2022 as a pro scout. Prior to that role, he spent 2020-21 as a defensive quality control coach/assistant defensive line coach with Minnesota. This will be Albury’s sixth NFL season.

Bogardus is joining the Vikings after spending the 2022 season as the outside linebackers coach with the Los Angeles Rams. He brings nine seasons of NFL experience to the Vikings, which includes six seasons with the Rams, where he overlapped with Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell from 2020-21. Bogardus also coached two seasons with Denver (2015-16), helping the Broncos win Super Bowl 50, and one season (2014) with the Buffalo Bills. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ball State from 2011-14.

Gibson will be in his ninth season of coaching. He spent 2022 as the special teams coordinator/defensive ends coach at Southern Illinois after serving as a special teams analyst for Michigan state from 2020-21. A native or Rapid City, South Dakota, Gibson began his coaching career at Dickinson State University in North Dakota while a student. He joined the staff full-time in 2015 as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach for two seasons. Gibson worked with the defensive line and linebackers at the University of Colorado from 2017-19.

Hill will be coaching in the NFL for the first time, but it will be the 10th season of coaching for the Shreveport, Louisiana, native. He’s joining the Vikings after spending 2022 as a defensive analyst with LSU. Previously Hill coached at Birmingham Southern (2021), Upper Iowa (2020), Central Oklahoma (2019), Eastern Michigan and Angelo State (2018), Morehead State (2016-17), Ferrum College, James Madison, West Virginia State, Concordia-Ann Arbor, Adrian College and Concordia-Chicago (2008-12), his alma mater.

Hutchings also will be coaching in the NFL for the first time after most recently coaching outside linebackers at Western Kentucky. He played inside linebacker for the USC Trojans from 2013-16 before becoming a defensive assistant/linebackers coach for USC for three seasons (2018-20). Hutchings was a defensive analyst for Oregon in 2021.
