US House passes sweeping gun reform legislation

The House of Representatives passed a sweeping gun package in a 223-to-204 vote on Wednesday in response to mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas, which killed more than 30 people overall.

The gun legislation package is made up of several proposals including the restriction of sales of large-capacity ammunition magazines and raising the minimum age for the purchase of certain firearms.

Despite the measure being passed, it’s expected to meet Republican opposition in the Senate, where 60 votes are needed to “break through a filibuster and move forward.”
