The hierarchy of power in the DC Extended Universe seems to be changing, and Black Adam is the reason why.

Dwayne Johnson took to social media to share a new behind-the-scenes photo from the “Black Adam” set while filming. The Instagram post did show our best look yet at his costume (from behind), and it appears that the suit shares the same level of detail as the one Zachary Levi’s and the rest of the Shazam family will don in “Shazam: Fury of the Gods.”

“This image of Black Adam from behind gives you a tactile sense of the absolute massive scale and size of our movie. You also see a little of the intricate and beautiful textured detail of Black Adam’s body suit (this is not your typical DC or Marvel padded muscle suit),” Johnson said.”And finally you get a glimpse of the enormous and appropriate destruction. As we all know, superheroes have a code of justice and don’t kill the bad guys. But, Black Adam does. The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is changing. Antihero. Man in black. Protector of his people.”

As of now, no plot details have been revealed. The only confirmation in regards to the story was the inclusion of criminal syndicate “The Intergang,” which was revealed by co-star Sarah Shahi (“Sex/Life”) during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming film, Shahi revealed, “I play a character named Adrianna, and she’s a freedom fighter that’s leading this big resistance against an evil, malicious group called Intergang.”

Johnson and Shahi will be joined in the film by Aldis Hodge (“Underground,” “The Invisible Man”) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (“To All the Boys I Love Before,” “Charlie’s Angels”) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (“Trinkets,” “Euphoria”) as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan (“GoldenEye,” “Mamma Mia!”) as Doctor Fate, Marwan Kenzari (“The Old Guard,” “Aladdin”), and Uli Latukefu (“Young Rock”) has been cast in an unspecified role.

Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”) is directing “Black Adam,” the most recent script of which was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Adam Sztykiel wrote the previous draft.

“Black Adam” will hit theaters July 29, 2022.
