The fifth-named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season strengthened to a hurricane early Friday with Florida and Barbados among those in its projected path.
As of Friday morning, Elsa sustained winds of 74 miles-per-hour with a gust to 86 miles-per-hour recently reported at Barbados, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) encourages people residing in states along the Atlantic coast to download the FEMA mobile app and learn about how to prepare for hurricanes by visiting Ready.gov and Listo.gov.
The Atlantic hurricane season began on Tuesday, June 1, and ends on Tuesday, November 30.
