MINNEAPOLIS — A 17-year-old male was killed Saturday evening after shots were fired into a north Minneapolis residence, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2200 block of Ilion Avenue North at approximately 6:26 p.m. The call was updated to a shooting while officers were en route.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers administered lifesaving measures before emergency medical services arrived and transported the teen to North Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary information indicates the victim was inside the residence when multiple shots were fired into the building, striking him.

“This tragic killing has shattered the family of a young man,” O’Hara said. “We will devote every available resource to bring justice for the young victim and his family. The juvenile justice system must use every available tool to protect young people who pose a danger to themselves as well as the community.”

Forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
