Writer Scott Snyder confirmed during a CBR interview on Nov. 8 that Homelander will fight Superman, ending months of speculation since the character’s inclusion was announced at New York Comic Con 2025.
The matchup will take place in “DC K.O.: Boss Battle” no.1, with “The Boys” co-creator Darick Robertson providing a variant cover featuring the two characters in combat.
The “DC K.O.” event centers on preventing an invasion by the powerful New God Darkseid, with heroes and villains competing in a single-elimination tournament to gain Omega Energy needed to defeat him. The crossover features a “bonus level” sending heroes into pocket dimensions to face champions from other universes.
Along with Homelander, the event will include Sub-Zero from “Mortal Kombat,” Annabelle from “The Conjuring” universe, Vampirella, Red Sonja, and Samantha from “Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.”
Jim Lee, chief creative officer at DC Comics, teased the event at the announcement, asking, “Who doesn’t want to see Homelander fight Superman?”
Homelander is widely regarded as one of the strongest characters in “The Boys,” with feats including lifting nearly a million pounds. However, Superman’s canonical abilities far exceed those demonstrated by Homelander in the comics.
“I had this idea. What if we bring in characters from other universes?” writer Scott Snyder said. “It’s really fun. It’s like Lex and Superman both against Homelander and all this stuff.”
The fight represents a confrontation between Superman’s embodiment of hope and justice against Homelander’s abuse of power and nihilism. Homelander was intentionally created as a dark satire of Superman in the original “The Boys” comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
The official solicitation for “DC K.O.: Boss Battle” no.1 states that heroes “must battle the champions of other worlds” and promises “matchups you never imagined possible.”
The issue sets the stage for “DC: Next Level,” the second phase of DC’s All In initiative launching in 2026. Writers Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson will helm the new storyline following the conclusion of “DC K.O.”
“From the launch of the DC All In Special, to the introduction of an Absolute universe, and into the DC K.O. event that we’re right in the middle of now, we’re determined to build on all of the fan enthusiasm,” Snyder said in a statement.
The final order cutoff for “DC K.O.: Boss Battle” no.1 is Jan. 12, 2026.
