Almost a year after releasing the first teaser for “Superman,” Warner Bros. and DC Studios released the first trailer for “Supergirl” (previously known as “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”), offering the earliest complete look at Milly Alcock’s debut as Kara Zor-El in DC Studios’ developing shared universe.
The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, is slated for release in 2026 as part of the “Gods and Monsters” slate overseen by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The footage introduced a version of Supergirl shaped by far harsher conditions than her cousin Superman, reflecting the tone of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic series “Woman of Tomorrow,” which serves as the film’s primary inspiration. Gillespie leaned into the story’s cosmic-western aesthetic, blending character-focused drama with widescale science-fiction elements.
DC Studios described the story as a cosmic journey that followed Kara and a young girl seeking justice after a personal tragedy, positioning the narrative as both a coming-of-age arc and a broader exploration of Kara’s identity.
With the trailer’s debut, Warner Bros. began the film’s marketing rollout ahead of its 2026 theatrical release, which included a presence on various social channels and a dedicated website. Supergirl will soar into theaters on June 26, 2026.
