Police responded to reports of gunfire around 5:46 p.m. Nov. 5 on the 2600 block of West Broadway Avenue, according to a statement from Chief Brian O’Hara. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the woman was with a male acquaintance inside an apartment when the shooting occurred. Police say the man fired the shots that struck her.
A firearm was recovered from the scene, along with a knife found on the floor of the living room. Investigators and forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The suspect was booked into the Hennepin County Jail. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name, along with the official cause and manner of death, at a later date.
