James Gunn’s “Superman” continues to make waves after its theatrical release this summer, drawing strong audiences on digital and streaming platforms.
The film, which opened in theaters July 11, 2025, has grossed over $615 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. Domestic box office receipts surpassed $354 million, ranking the film among the top 10 highest-grossing releases of the year.
“Superman” became available on digital platforms on August 15, attracting more than 527,000 U.S. households within the first three days, marking it as one of 2025’s strongest premium video-on-demand launches, according to Yahoo! Entertainment. Its release was timed ahead of the second season of “Peacemaker,” which features characters from the film.

The film’s streaming debut on HBO Max began September 19, and within 10 days, it amassed more than 13 million global views, surpassing previous records for “pay-one” films on the platform.
Collectors and home viewers gained access to “Superman” on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23. These editions include deleted scenes, a making-of documentary, and director’s commentary by Gunn.

A sequel, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. Gunn has indicated that iconic villain Brainiac may appear, though details remain limited.
With strong performance in theaters, on digital platforms, and through streaming, “Superman” has demonstrated the continuing appeal of the DC universe and the potential for interconnected storytelling across media.
