Writers and artists Brian K. Vaughan, known for “Saga,” “We Stand on Guard,” and “Paper Girls,” and Niko Henrichon, known for “Fang” and “Pride of Baghdad,” have released a new graphic novel titled “Spectators.” The project was first serialized on the creators’ Substack newsletter and is now available in a collected edition.
“Spectators” marks the first collaboration between Vaughan and Henrichon in nearly two decades since “Pride of Baghdad.” The 344-page graphic novel is set hundreds of years in the future. It follows two ghostly characters—a woman from the present day and a gun-wielding man from the distant past—as they travel together through New York City and witness societal changes and crises.

According to Vaughan, the project took over three years to complete and is intended for mature readers. The story addresses themes including life, death, regret, and voyeurism, and features graphic content and sexual themes. Henrichon entirely paints the artwork for the novel.

“Niko and I are so proud of every panel of this 344-page graphic novel, which took us over three years to complete, and which we hope will be a one-of-a-kind experience for mature readers ready for an uncensored exploration of the very different ways we all watch sex and violence,” said Vaughan.

“Spectators” is available in hardcover at comic book stores, independent bookstores, and major retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones.
