Fans of the DC Universe got a first glimpse into the next chapter of Superman’s story this week as director James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming sequel to the 2025 “Superman” film will feature the Man of Steel as part of a larger ensemble cast.
No actual production has officially been announced, but Gunn continues to fuel the fan fire of speculation on social media as he discussed plans for the bold new universe along with his currently airing on HBO project, “Peacemaker.”

Though the planned film is not officially titled “Superman 2,” Gunn assured fans that Superman will remain “an important element” of the follow-up. The story is designed to bring together multiple DC characters introduced across the franchise, blending superhero action with a shared universe storyline similar to Marvel’s billion-dollar enterprise.

The sequel will feature Supergirl, Peacemaker, Green Lantern, and other DC heroes, who will team up and interact with Superman. Gunn has stated that the story will build on themes from the first film, like heroism, sacrifice, and responsibility in a shared universe.

A recent behind-the-scenes feature showcased the teamwork between Gunn and David Corenswet, who plays Superman. It reveals how the critical speech in “Superman” was created. The famed speech, given to Lex Luthor in the film, was meant to show the hero’s humanity and moral values. Gunn indicated that similar character-focused moments will be key to the sequel, even with big action scenes.

The sequel’s story will also connect with “Peacemaker” Season 2, which reintroduces the Justice Gang. This retcon reimagined the previous universe’s Justice League, rewriting continuity between TV and film. Superman, alongside characters like Supergirl and Green Lantern, will continue to appear across multiple storylines, reinforcing the interconnected (and new) DC Universe.

Production is reportedly underway, although official release dates haven’t been announced. Gunn has mentioned that he will continue to address social and ethical themes such as compassion, justice, and civic responsibility.
