MINNEAPOLIS — A domestic shooting in south Minneapolis early Tuesday morning left two young adult siblings dead and their mother hospitalized, according to authorities.
Officers from the Fifth Precinct responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment in the 100 block of East 59th Street around 12:37 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a deceased man and woman (brother and sister), both in their 20s, as well as a woman (their mother) in her 40s who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The injured woman was taken to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the incident as a “heartbreaking tragedy that has destroyed a family,” explaining that preliminary evidence indicates a domestic dispute escalated into gun violence.
Investigators believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting the two women. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading to this deadly encounter.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the identities of the deceased, along with the official causes and manner of death. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
